Azerbaijani oilmen have made a great contribution to the achievement of Azerbaijan’s economic independence. President Ilham Aliyev stressed this fact in his speech at the solemn event dedicated to the extraction of two billion tons of oil. The President noted that Azerbaijan has managed to create a powerful economic potential thanks to the selfless work of the oilworkers.
“The work of these people should be appreciated and is highly assessed. Overall, the republic owes these people for its achievements in the economy and even in the international arena, because it was thanks to their selfless efforts that other fields and sectors have developed in Azerbaijan,” Deputy Chair of Azerbaijan’s Parliament Bahar Muradova said.
Azerbaijani oilworkers have written a lot of glorious pages in the history of world oil production. As early as in the nineteenth century, Azerbaijan became the founder of industrial oil extraction, and later it pioneered oil extraction offshore. And it was no coincidence that even at that time Azerbaijan began to be called an oil academy.
“Azerbaijan pioneered the industrial extraction of oil in the world and also launched oil production at sea. The creation of the Oil Rocks, the discovery of huge oil fields in the territory of the USSR - in the Volga region, Siberia, were also enabled by Azerbaijani oilworkers and exploration geologists. Moreover, our oilmen also left their mark in the Middle East countries where they developed deposits that were discovered by Azerbaijani geologists,” Azerbaijani MP Aydin Huseynov said.
The professionalism of Azerbaijani oilworkers and the high quality of their work directly affect the development of the country’s entire economy and primarily facilitates the financing and implementation of such internationally acclaimed mega-projects as the Southern Gas Corridor, which is aimed at ensuring the energy security of Europe, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the North-South project, and the construction of petrochemical enterprises in Turkey.
According to Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyn Bagirov, Azerbaijan's economy has tripled or quadrupled since the 90s of the last century, which is unprecedented in the post-Soviet space.
"It has grown not by 30-40 percent, but three to four times! Twenty to twenty-five years ago, it was unimaginable that industrial and economic zones would be created in Azerbaijan. There are two factors behind this. The first factor is the selfless work of the people and their faith in the future, and the second one is the oil strategy implemented by the country’s leadership, fair and transparent distribution of oil revenues,” the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources said.
The production of two billion tons of oil was solemnly marked in Azerbaijan a few days ago. This milestone was enabled by long-standing, challenging and selfless efforts of Azerbaijani oilworkers.
