A two-volume edition by the head of the Azerbaijani President’s Administration, Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, dedicated to the formation of the national idea, has been published in Moscow.
The first book by the academician refers to the most significant stages in the formation of the national idea of the Azerbaijani people; profoundly traces the sources of its shape-up in Azerbaijan at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries, as well as in the Soviet period when attempts were made to eliminate the national identity of the nation.
In the preface, Ramiz Mehdiyev emphasizes that the very fact of the existence of an independent state is grounds for the intellectual thought of Azerbaijan to turn towards the "national idea" as a priority set of ideals and values aimed at searching for the meaning of the existence of Azerbaijani society as well as the answer to the question as to what this idea should entail and its essence. All these issues require scientific answers, the author pointed out. The book sets out precise objectives facing the Azerbaijani science regarding the study of ethnogenesis.
The publication highlights the extensive efforts of national leader Heydar Aliyev aimed at socio-economic, spiritual and cultural progress of Azerbaijan while heading the republic during the Soviet period.
The scientist also touches upon the issue of the ethnogenesis of Armenians, who not only distort their origin, linking their roots to alien peoples, but also spread false information about the ethnogenesis of Azerbaijanis.
The second book of the two-volume edition analyzes the establishment of an independent Azerbaijani state at the end of the 20th century and the formation of national identity in the modern period. The author notes that Azerbaijan possesses the required resources to maintain its nationally oriented path of development in the era of globalization. Academician Ramiz Mehdiyev is convinced that thanks to the talent of President Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani people will continue following the path of socio-economic development in line with the requirements of the 21st century, pursuing the solution of the tasks pertaining to the national idea.
