The next republican exhibition and sale fair of beekeeping products will be held in Baku on October 5-28.
In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On beekeeping”, the exhibition will be held near the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Azerbaijan reported that such factors as the creation of better conditions for farmers to produce beekeeping products, the lack of public transport and parking problems, and the availability of an adequate infrastructure were taken into consideration during the selection of places.
Beekeeping in Azerbaijan is one of the most diverse types of agriculture. There are about 600 species of honey plants in Azerbaijan, almost 200 of which, as a source of nectar and pollen, create even greater natural opportunities for expanding beekeeping.
From 1990 to 1999, beekeeping in the country decreased by 45 percent. There were many reasons for that. Most apiaries were destroyed in the area of military operations.
Currently, the Azerbaijani government does all its best to contribute to the rehabilitation and further development of beekeeping with creating favorable conditions for beekeepers.
The main task nowadays is to increase the production of honey and export it through participation of beekeepers in international markets under the ‘Made in Azerbaijan’ brand.
According to official data of 2016, there were 260 thousand bee families in Azerbaijan. The honey production in the same year amounted to 2.7 thousand tons. Experts believe that in fact, the volume of bee families and the output is more. Since beekeepers are mainly employed as individual farms, their products are often not reflected in statistics. One of the steps for the development of beekeeping is the registration of the producers.
President Ilham Aliyev called on entrepreneurs to increase attention to beekeeping at the event dedicated to the implementation of the state programs for the development of regions in 2014-2018. Calling it a promising area, the head of state said that beekeepers will be given subsidies for each bee family. The aim is to further increase the interest in this field and turn the honey into a major export product. Honey and other beekeeping products produced in Azerbaijan differ in their quality and they are environmentally friendly. For this reason, the beekeepers receive large quantities of orders at export missions and overseas food exhibitions.
