Significant progress has been made in the project since the last year's meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council. The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) Advisory Council held at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku. He said that two important events were held last year - the Southern Gas Corridor was launched in May and TANAP officially opened in June. These are important events for the operation of the Shah Deniz field and the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor.The President said that today we are close to finalizing this huge energy project. Three of its four elements are already ready and used. After the launch of the TANAP project, 1 billion cubic meters of gas were exported to the Turkish market. President Ilham Aliyev said that a major breakthrough was observed in the construction of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline, while the TAP was 67% complete last February, now it is 87% complete.
The participants in the event included energy ministers from the Southern Gas Corridor member-states and representatives of a number of organizations, as well as European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources, acting co-chair of SGC Advisory Council Gunther Oettinger. Oettinger said that the European Union is closely cooperating with the member states to finalize the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor.
The event saw the signing of the Joint Declaration on the outcome of the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) Advisory Council.
